Strategy & Planning
1. Design and implement strategy and processes for the lab function to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of items (samples, raw materials and finished products)
2. Identify opportunities to increase process efficiency and reduce cost of testing
3. Keep abreast of markets and competition and ensure continuous state of competitive advantage with respect to lab processes, technology, product properties testing

Financial
1. Establish annual budget requirements to support the work and activities for the lab by liaising with the QA director for the region. Ensure adherence to the budget through periodic reviews and identify corrective actions in case of deviations
2. Drive cost efficiency through recommending improvements to current lab processes and methods

Operational

Lab Operations Effectiveness
1. Liaise with Sales & Marketing team for timely collection of customer sample to be developed, with Procurement team for sample collection of raw materials and with Production team for collection of the first bulk and finished product for testing
2. Devise, implement and maintain an effective quality management system
Prepare a framework to analyse the sample (for RM, Sample, first bulk and Finished goods) to understand the material used. Prepare an analysis of the physical and chemical properties of the sample detailing the exact specifications of the sample
3. Oversee the testing of the sample to check if it matches the documented specifications; Oversee testing of first bulk production finished product against lab specifications; Ensuring approval or rejection as per the analysis result; Ensure getting quick and reliable results in case of return of goods from customer
4. Take a lead in setting standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the lab; Oversee the lab activities and ensure efficient implementation of lab processes across all the plants in the region; Review deviations if any and recommend corrective actions
5. Ensure that all lab activities are in adherence to applicable regulatory requirements
6. Always ensure adherence to safety norms and procedures in the department
7. Ensure maintenance of testing equipment in the laboratory. Ensure timely calibration and maintenance of these equipment for optimum test results
8. Lead the process of evaluating new lab equipment/technology and make recommendations as needed
9. Ensure that the lab team is trained annually to keep them abreast with new methods/ processes/ equipment
10. Control and approve lab test reports and ensure they are maintained and ready for use by other departments (like QC, QA, Production, Procurement etc)

People Management
1. Ensure the team understands and adhere to the clear roles and accountabilities defined
2. Develop and monitor key performance indicators of the direct reportees and counsel to facilitate their continued development
3. Identify training and development needs of the team members and plan their training and development and follow up implementation
4. Enable the team to perform effectively by delegating/assisting/guiding/counselling/developing team members
5. Drive a transparent, performance driven and result oriented culture within the team
6. Ensure succession planning for self and critical roles in the team
